So the Daniel skin comes in LAQ’s standard skin tones. Milk, Fair, Peach, Nougat, Cocoa, Ebony. I wish they had something in between Nougat and Cocoa as Nougat is just barely tan enough and Cocoa sits in the little too dark section.

A lot of male skins in Second Life lack definition.  I mean, yes most of them have the standard “Hey look, I live at the gym and instead of actual food I only eat nutrition bars and shakes” Six pack. But when you get to the back, arms, butt, and legs it all kind of terms into this fuzzy soft dreamland where you apparently have only been doing sit ups and nothing else. The Daniel skin however does not have this problem. In the legs and arms you can see the hint of bone, muscle, and veins showing that the weights get used. The back has well defined structure and muscle as well.

Hey skin makers, guess what? Men have nipples! I know it’s weird isn’t it? I mean nobody has ever successfully explained to me why men have nipples but apparently they are there for piercings and for your friends to twist hard  to get your attention. But they are indeed there. So far in my limited experience with Second Life skins…LAQ is the only one to go “Look Men, for you we have nipples!” instead of “We’re going to make a blurry dark area where your nipples should be”

On this picture, you should totally ignore the feet. I never really understood why there were prim feet until I started to have to mess around with my avatar’s feet. But I was told by my female consultants that wearing black socks and sandals for underwear pics is decidedly not even close to sexy. But I am going off on a tangent. LOOK!! The back of the knees. You can actually tell they are there. Why is this important? No clue! But it’s nice to have them there for once. It lets people know exactly where to kick your avatar if you’re being an asshole and wearing shorts. *reviews the above statement and decides not to wear shorts anymore as he will probably be staring at the sky a lot saying “Dude! What did I do?!”

Knees!! Look Men!! We have knees finally!! This is actually awesome as I was talking to a friend who was wearing a female skin with knees and I asked why I was not special enough to receive a very crucial set of joints on the human body. She said “Remember when you thought Dear Dancien would be a good idea? Yeah, you’re still paying for that”. The Daniel skin has excellent shading on the legs, you can tell which parts are which. And the pubic hair doesn’t look dirty or unwashed (Redgrave….I am looking at you) so that is a total bonus.

This may be the best part about the Daniel skin for me. But it is only 1990L for a 10 pack of skins in each tone. That is not a typo. 1.9.9.0L. That is a completely awesome price. I don’t feel like I have to sell people on the black market in order to get a skin line I like. (Belleza, Signature…that’s a shout out to you by the way). So for those of you currently keeping track of the figures….10 skins from LAQ = 1990 1 Skin from Belleza or Signauture = 2000. Price does not dictate quality and this is not very hard math. It even saves you 10L so you can upload a snapshot of your new skin and brag to your friends saying “Check it bitches!”

There is one glowing negative though about the Daniel skin. While I was at the store, I looked to the left of the display and saw the shape for sale….for 500L. I decided to live on the wild side of life and get the shape. I wore it for about 5 seconds. Noticed I had weee shoulders, no arms, and a giant head and then went back to my original shape. So, you can indeed pass on the shape if you so desire. But it’s only 500L, I’ve tipped DJ’s that much for playing Abba in Goth clubs.

Also, if anybody knows how to get rid of that weird shape collision thing when posing shirtless as a dude…I’d totally appreciate you throwing a bone my way and letting me know.

Now as I have learned in my short time in Second Life, when you are choosing a club to seek employment at you need to take several things into consideration. They are the following:

• How the club looks: If you are not into the goth scene, then dancing in a club that has a goth setting probably will not be the right fit for you. The same can be said for any other type of themed build. Punk, grunge, medieval, country, the list goes on.
• The location: Clubs that are in the center of a large mall are likely to have a lot of lag, which as a dancer can be very frustrating as it is for everybody else involved in the affair. Also, this is where we can get into the debate of parcel clubs versus sim clubs. If a club is on a parcel then there is the chance that it is going to be a smaller venue. Traffic may not be very high or the owner prefers to keep things small, or they may be just starting. On the other side of that coin, clubs located on its own sim could indicate that they have a reasonably high amount of traffic, are well established, and have done well for themselves. Well enough to cover the costs of having it’s very owns sim. Of course, most of what I have just said are assumptions especially since I don’t own a club and I suspect much like the venture of owning a real life club Second Life Clubs are very pretty money pits.
• The application process: Which will be covered in the next paragraph.

After some extensive searching of the classifieds and some of the forums help wanted sections, I finally arrived at the Sixx Pack landing zone. I liked the build, it had clean lines and was well lit and you could tell that some thought went into the layout. And this may apply only to audiophiles like myself, but I liked the music I was hearing when I hit the sim.  The applications were located in plain sight when you landed. So I picked one up for becoming a dancer and the other for becoming a DJ (best to cover ones bases depending on skill set I think). The application process in and of itself is fairly straight forward. Here is a sampling of things they will more than likely ask you.

• Your Second Life Name
• How many events you can work a week. If you can only work one, you are less likely to get hired than the guy who puts down a higher number
• Any previous experience you have had
• They will ask you if this is your primary ID or if you are an alt. They want to make sure that they are not rehiring somebody they have fired.
• Your real life date of birth. Before you say that may be an invasion of privacy, it is simply a way for an adult club to cover their ass as it were. It is all fun and games till the dancer gets revealed to be a minor.
• They might ask if you are willing to change the appearance of your avatar. This is fairly self explanatory. Most clubs are going for a certain “look”. They want to know if you, the potential employee are willing to work with them to achieve this look.
• A sample emote. You are being paid to flirt with women. They want to know if you have the chops.
• Two pictures of yourself usually one head shot and one fully nude. They want to know what you are bringing to the table as it were.
• When you are available. If you are not available when they hold events then what exactly is the point of continuing the process.
• A variety of other things. From how would others describe your personality, do why you want to work at the club you are applying to.

When you finish off you application, double check for spelling errors, make sure the app is titled properly.  And turn it in exactly how they say. Sixx Pack for example, you drop the notecard off in the box where you got it from. Some clubs prefer you hand it off to a person but in my four months in Second Life I have learned that Second Life enjoys eating inventory and item transactions.  And then the waiting game begins. Have patience, most places will let you know one way or another.

When you get contacted about your application, that is when the interview process has begun. I am loathe to put this so bluntly, but when you hear from the manager you sent the application to, don’t be a dick. Club Managers are usually very busy and have little to no time for it.  You will be asked what a good time is for you. Once the time and date are settled you will meet. For Sixx Pack, I met with their dance manager, a gentleman named BigJ Zunimoor. We talked for awhile about what the job entails and a hostess came in to give me a trial run. I was asked to dance on stage (they want to be sure you have suitable dances. Do not worry if you do not, they will usually hand you a notecard telling you where to grab them). You will also be asked to participate in some roleplaying. Give sample emotes to the hostess like you would the client. From there, you are asked to disrobe and display the goods as it were. This is actually a pretty important thing since you are applying at an adult club and if all goes well you will be spending most of your time naked. I will be covering prim cocks and appearance in Part Two though, so let us move on. When being interviewed, do not be afraid to ask questions. Most places want intelligent dancers. Ones that can creatively emote and adapt to certain situations. Asking questions is an excellent way to show you have a brain in your head. After the interview process you will usually be thanked for coming and informed that they will get back to you. From there, it is a waiting game. I was informed shortly that they would love to give me a trial run as a dancer and was given a few notes about my appearance and emotes.

This last errand was apparently to assassinate Santa Claus.  Its very exciting sounding but harder than it seems, because there are so freaking many of them. So I just picked a random Christmas themed sim, and attempted to go on a homicidal rampage.  Santa wasn’t there, but his Mrs. was. She was a bot though, so I had a very stupid conversation with her.  I am sure the person who owns her thought it was very funny too.

I finally got frustrated and ended up at Denton Valley instead, where Dancien had thoughtfully provided some burning materials so the evening wasn’t totally wasted.  And then after a victory dance, went back to the ranch to drink Lone Star beer and ponder the evils of Christmas.

I continue with my deep and unstinting insane love of Rotten Toe.  It seems every single time I go there, I *have* to buy something.  And this last time this particular hair was in the lucky chair, which is why Juana is wearing such an unaccustomed color.  But it seemed to go very well, and even very appropriate as well considering the circumstances.  The Funeral party dress too is magnificent.  I didn’t wear any spikes like I shoud have though, but pieces from the Oshun Dark Eden set are always personal faves as accessories. The Puke skin is utterly adorable too, and pleasingly unusual.  Its like a cute and doll-like girly corpse paint in a way.  And by the way, those Frost Fae wings from Chaospire (part of the Frost Fae set) are scripted to snow.

On a related tangent, if you have the chance to see the documentary “Until the Light Takes Us,” you should really do so.  I had no real previous knowledge of the excesses of the early 90s Norwegian Death Metal scene apart from the famous murders and church burnings, but after seeing this interesting (and frequently unintentionally funny) movie, I felt like maybe if I was going to do the Death Metal Fashionista lifestyle in SL, then murdering Santa and setting his sleigh on fire would be a very Fashionista Varg Vikernes thing to do.  (Ok maybe he’d stab Santa in the head and then scatter his dismembered body all over the place and then set fire to a church, but hey let’s pretend)  And it didn’t hurt either that the exposed brain was sort of reminiscent of the famous suicide cover with the brains on a pillow. (go Google it if you don’t believe me).
