So April 14th is Pink Shirt day. Basically it’s a day where people can wear pink and a good lot of them can jump on the bandwagon and say “Hey, Stop Bullying”.  You can usually tell when Pink Shirt day is coming because people start getting sensitive about everything. I am waiting for wear all black, with sunglasses and be surly day.

So I started seeing a lot of plurks being flung back and forth about what is bullying, what isn’t bullying, what could be bullying and I thought about it for awhile and now y’all get my two cents.

If you are threatening people for disagreeing with you, you are being a bully. Also, you are being a douche

If you threaten to boycott people for not joining your organization, movement, SL Cause of the Week, you are being a bully.

If you for no reason start making fun of somebody, you are a bully.

If you call somebody out for being a complete asshole, you are NOT being a bully.

Everybody seeing the irony here?

Now, while bullying is a bad thing. I see it sometimes as a necessary thing. If there were no bullying in our school lives we’d come out some really thin skinned criers. Could you imagine if we didn’t toughen up in school? Your boss would tell you that you need to improve your work or yell at you for messing up and there would be waterworks and then everybody would come give you a hug and then you’d all sit around and talk about your feelings instead of sucking it up and fixing the problem.

But, you’ll probably ignore all this. For the next week or so you’ll be more sensitive to the feelings of others. And then that will pass, and you’ll go back to threatening people who disagree with you, don’t join your organization, or cause of the week, you’ll go back to posting pictures of people you think look horrible, and your friends will all laugh with you while you do it. Some of you might not, and for that…good for you. But the rest of you, well you just go on being you. We’ll just remember your behavior next time April 14th comes around.

Disclaimer: Look, bullying happens. But this post should no way be considering an endorsement of bullying. I do not actually endorse bullying or the extremes it’s been taken too as we have all seen in the news. These kids need help, blaming it on video games and other crap other than shitty parenting isn’t going to fix the problem.
